Financial institutions need to take particular care when they are developing their company logo with a graphic design company. Their target market expects to see a corporate and formal image and would find it hard to trust a bank with a fluffy pink rabbit logo prancing around their bank statement. This is not to say that their logos can’t be stunning, unique and highly creative – in fact it is essential that they nail all 3 points.

Logos are tricky little things to get just right. They have to explain what the company is all about from the very first viewing. They are a fundamental part of an effective brand strategy without which a company will get overlooked time and time again in favor of its competitors which have strong, bold brands. And another key requirement is that a logo must be simple to reproduce and must look good whether it is on a billboard or on a promotional pen. An overly fussy logo will never make the grade.

Financial institutions need to convey several key messages via their brand strategy which must be mirrored in their logo:

  • They are professional and experienced
  • They are trustworthy and can give clients the best financial support and advice possible
  • They are caring and looking out for the clients’ best interests
  • They are the best in their field

Let’s take a look at 5 top logos for financial institutions and see why they work.

Bank of America

From the first viewing it’s clear which company the logo represents with its bold use of the company name at the top in a valiant blue. The abstract design below in blue and red is reminiscent of the American flag and can be seen as a nice compliment to the company name. Alternatively it can be perceived as symbolic of roads criss-crossing the country – sending out the message that this bank reaches far and wide and is suitable for all American citizens wherever they may live.

Advisory Financial Group

The emphasis for this logo is definitely on the word ‘Advisory’ which is designed with a strong but slightly formal font. Immediately customers who need financial advice will be tuning to this company. The abstract image above the company name not only looks good and adds some nice, complimentary color into the mix, and the up-pointing arrow suggests positivity and increased financial growth.

ToroFX

With such a great name this company would have been remiss to not include a bull figure in its logo. Toro is the name for a Spanish fighting bull and the logo cleverly but simply combines the company name with a pictorial image of a bull. The use of black and blue font clearly breaks up the company name so the ‘FX’, commonly known as the abbreviation for foreign exchange, is very apparent.

Currency House

A nice strong and steady sounding company name needs a nice strong looking logo. The company name is ideally placed and catches attention first. It is effectively backed up by the pictorial image which is a simple yet clever design – a few vertical white columns are suddenly transformed into a building suggesting sturdy and reliable foundations.

RBC Royal Bank

The Royal Bank of Canada is the largest financial institution in Canada and so it’s not surprising that it has an excellent logo. The company name is the main focal point in strong blue letters, and this is supported by a regal pictorial lion which is holding a globe in his paws. This gives the client a subconscious element of reassurance – this bank is to be trusted to handle my finances.

These logos are all superb for financial institutions and fit the bill – they all have a slightly formal and corporate air, they ooze professionalism and are completely unique. In each instance the graphic designer has carefully thought out the message that the company needs to get across and has created perfect logos for each. From the first viewing anyone can see that the logo represents a financial business. The professional look is reassuring and likely to compel potential clients to seek more information – all in all, a job well done
